Raising Up Kaylie in Knox
Knox Church has always been a caring and supportive extended family to me. Knox is a warm and inviting place where you get to know each other on a more personal level because of us being a small church. I like the close knit family feel of Knox.
I grew up in Knox Church family and I know it is important to me to raise Kaylie in this same loving and caring environment. My Knox family is like another family outside of my parents and sister to help me to guide and raise Kaylie up in her spiritual and developmental growth. My parents help and support me in bring up Kaylie in this loving and nurturing environment.
Presenting Kaylie for baptism on January 13, 2008 was important for me. I want her to feel the love and presence of Christ in her life. I want her to grow up learning about Jesus Christ and remembering her baptism in Christ each year. I will tell her of her baptism day and how special of a day it was. I want her to know the meaning of baptism and what it means to baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. I looked up the definition of baptism and it says that baptism means: a ceremonial immersion in water or application of water, as an initiatory (introductory) rite or sacrament of the Christian Church. This means to me that I will continue to introduce Kaylie to the faith and her union with Christ Jesus.
Kaylie is also reminded of her baptism every time we are in our closet and look at the poster that the Sunday School Children made for her with a verse from Isaiah: 43:1, "I have called you by name." It means that Kaylie has brothers and sisters in Christ and that she is loved by them. That Kaylie has another family outside of her mom, Grandparents, and Aunt, that she could go to if she feels that she can't talk to us about something is important to me.
Having Kaylie baptized was very emotional for me. It had me thinking of how fast this first year would go by. Here it is a year later and I still think back to the day she was born and her big milestones or celebrations she had during the year. Watching Kaylie being reminded by Pastor Sue of her one year baptism anniversary brought back the memories of her baptism last year and how this year she was wide awake compared to last year when slept through the whole ceremony. She was excited and happy to join in the remembrance of this day.
